slippery when wetFollowing two moderately successful albums, Bon Jovi received instant commercial success with the release of 1986’s Slippery When Wet. The band’s third studio record and their most successful, contains, arguably, some of their most known songs such as “Wanted Dead or Alive”, “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name”- all of which broke the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer” both reached #1 while “Wanted Dead or Alive” peaked at #7, making it the first hard rock album to spawn three Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hits.

The album resided at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart for eight weeks, and has been deemed the band’s best selling album as it’s gone 12x platinum in the US. Slippery When Wet was engineered and mixed by Bob Rock, and the band hired legendary songwriter Desmond Child to work alongside Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora thus aiding in creating their biggest hits. As mentioned, the band received moderate success following the releases of their first two records, but it wasn’t until Slippery When Wet was released that the band’s catchy hits and MTV friendly look was put to work.
